What network access can I have?


Access from home

To access the University databases, electronic journals and electronic books from home, you need a username and password.
Registration for Hebrew University's remote services is done via the University's RAP site, which is maintained by the Computer Authority.
You can register, change your password, recover a lost password, or update user details.
After registration you can connect to Hebrew University servers via
Samba VPN service (new service)
or
Tango VPN service (will be discontinued soon).

Hadassah access

Access to Medical School electronic journals or databases from computers within the hospital network requires personal registration of authorized users via RAP(remote access) site of the Hebrew University
Electronic journals and databases will be made available upon logging in with
username%ra.

Access codes are personal and not transferable to unauthorized users.

Wireless connection to the Internet

HUJI-staff-stud network
Staff and students  can connect using "StaffStud" network which includes access to electronic resources
Remote access username and password (username%ra) are required.

HUJI-guest network provides internet access to free sites only

Accessing personal files

The material saved in the H drive can be accessed from home. Connect to HomeDir, choose the Ein-Karem campus, click the connect button, enter the username and password you use (username@ekmd)

What software can I use?
INSTALLATION OF SOFTWARE ON LIBRARY COMPUTERS IS FORBIDDEN
 
The operating system on all computers is Windows XP.
 
The following programs are installed on the library computers:
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Office 2003 - Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack – for Word,Excel and Powerpoint 2007 file formats
  • Communicator – Ask a Librarian
  • Babylon Hebrew English Dictionary
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (for pdf files)
  • Windows Media Player
  • Antivirus software
Where do I save the work I do?
You can save your work onto your USB memory stick or on your H drive (Home Directory).
The material saved in the H drive, can be accessed from home. Connect to HomeDir, choose the Ein-Karem campus, click the Connect button, enter the username and password you use userrname@ekmd. Please read the instructions.
Which computers can I use?
The library has 40 public computers for use by authorized staff and students, located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the library.
Four group study rooms on the 1st floor and 3rd floors have large 47" LCD wall monitors 
 

A computer kiosk is available on the 1st floor for quick reference or printing 



 
A scanning workstation is available in the photocopy / printing room on the 1st floor  
 
 
 
How can I contact the library help desk?
Do you want to ask how to send material to the printer?
Do you need to know whether the library is open tomorrow?
Or do you want to tell something to a friend who is sitting in a different part of the library?
 
There is no need to get up from your chair.
Office Communicator opens automatically when you login to a computer on campus. All you have to do is add people to your Contacts list.
You can contact the library support staff directly by clicking on  on the desktop.
In addition, you can contact the staff of the computer center by sending a message to Livechat with Help Desk.
 
How can I locate information on a subject?
  • To search articles in Pubmed, use the quick search in the library home page, and search for  button.
    Press the button, and enter the relevant details in the new opened sfx window.
    You can also search for articles on the databases the Library is subscribed for.

    If full text isn't available,
    check for a print version in the Aleph library catalog 
    OR
    order the article from the InterLibrary Loan.

  • Requests for librarian-mediated searches can be made at the reference office on the first floor. Requests can be made at the circulation desk whenever the reference office is closed.

    The reference librarians can be consulted by telephone (675-8790, 88790, 675-8377, 88377).  After 15:00, call 675-8535, 88535, 675-8791 or 88791.
    Formal group instruction in the use of library resources and database searching is available by appointment.  Appointments can be made with Esther, in the Reference Office, on the first floor of the library (telephone 675-8790 or 88790; esthere@savion.huji.ac.il).

Where can I print or scan?

Printing and Scanning facilities are available via credit card in 1st floor photocopy room. Photocopy cards also purchasable by Self service box.

Where can we work in groups?
Four "Group rooms" Including LCD screens are available in Berman Medical Library:
Two Rooms  on the 1st  Floor to be booked at circulation desk
Two Rooms on the  3rd Floor to be booked at circulation  desk
How do I get to the library?
The library is located in the Faculty of Medicine building of Hadassah Ein Kerem campus.
From Tel Aviv, leave Road 1 at the Harel Interchange and travel in the direction of Ein Kerem.
Along the way, there are signs indicating the hospital on road 3965
Eitan intersection – take left to Ein Kerem on road 396.
Kerem Intersection—take right on road 386.
After about half a kilometer, take left turn to Hadassah Hospital on road 396.
Guest Parking is available in the lower car park.
Internal buses run frequently to the Faculty of Medicine from bus stops located near the parking lots.
